OUR STORY
it started with a science experiment
now it is Living Photos in shared jars, becoming books that come alive when you touch them
FOUNDER
Shriya Sekhsaria
Princeton, 2018
In 2018, our founder Shriya was finishing her senior thesis at Princeton — what makes us happier in five minutes
She tested gratitude journals, meditation, kindness, photo albums — one thing worked better than everything else: memory jars
So she built Lumhaa — a quiet way to capture moments, put them in jars with the people you love, and look back when you need to remember
Then we made the photos move, then we made the jars become books — eventually, memories should fit in your hands
We are not optimising productivity, surfacing "right" memories with AI, or building a social network — we just make things that help you feel a little happier
It is just pretty — and it works
THE RESEARCH
memory jars work
after spending five minutes on a memory jar, people reported measurable improvements in happiness, loneliness, and wellbeing
from Shriya’s Princeton senior thesis, 2018
WHAT WE BELIEVE
what we stand for
Science-backed, not buzzword-driven
we started with research — we still follow the data, and if something does not make people happier, we do not build it
Motion over stillness
life does not freeze — neither should your memories; 1.5 seconds of life is prettier than a static photo
Physical and digital, together
the page that plays when you touch your phone to it — the bead that warms when she is thinking of you; both worlds, one love
Privacy over growth
your memories are yours — we do not sell them, train AI on them, or look at them, ever
Simple over clever
no algorithm deciding what matters, no gamification — just capture, jar, book
FEATURED IN
people seem to like it
SAY HELLO
questions, ideas, a quiet note
we read everything — write whenever you like
